A ‘Hidden Jewel’
The Pipe and Glass has been named as the Editors Choice for New Discoveries in the Good Hotel Guide 2018.
The guide – which an entirely independent publication – cites their selection of the best hotels across the UK and Ireland, championing the independent hotels and smaller chains.

Those awarded ‘Editors Choice’, are described as the UK’s ‘Hidden jewels’ providing a unique offering for their guests; be it the fresh local ingredients in the restaurant, a warm friendly environment or the attention to detail.

James Mackenzie, chef/owner of the Pipe and Glass reacted to the award saying “Inclusions in the guide are based solely on merit and customer recommendations and take into account the whole visitor experience, so it does mean a great deal to us, as our guests are always our priority.

“We’ve always trusted this guide so to be not only included, but selected as Editors Choice is fantastic.”

See what their inspectors had to say...

“Look out for the ‘stunning spire’ of St Mary’s church on the approach to this ‘enchanting village’. It’s a divine landmark that leads believers to the ‘very best hospitality’ and ‘outstanding food’ at James and Kate Mackenzie’s pub-with-rooms, report Guide inspectors in 2017. Past the ‘modest country pub exterior’, there’s a ‘warm, friendly’ welcome, and the Michelin-starred cooking that has people ‘chafing at the bit to get in’. The traditional bar, with its dark beams, open fire, and copper pots hanging, is just the spot for sandwiches and hand-pulled ales; in the restaurant, the chef/patron’s daily specials might include pea and mint ravioli, Yorkshire Fine Fettle cheese, pea shoots, nettle; ‘a perfectly grilled steak’. ‘Well-appointed’ bedrooms, each with a patio, are set around a ‘beautifully maintained’ herb garden. ‘Our super-king-size bed was adorned with a luxurious wool throw; there was an efficient shower in the sizeable bathroom. Smart touches included a modern chandelier and a striking sunray mirror.’ Mornings, the pre-ordered breakfast ‘wins universal plaudits’: chilled juices, yogurt and fruits; ‘golden eggs and salty bacon on home-baked bread’.”
